What are generic drugs?
In medical terms, generic refers to a drug that contains the same active ingredient as a brand-name drug. The legal protection of the original drugs ends when their patents expire, and then generic drugs can be sold. Generic drugs are usually cheaper than brand-name drugs because they do not have the costs of research, development, and marketing. Generic drugs must meet the same standards of quality, safety, and effectiveness as brand-name drugs. Generic drugs may have different inactive ingredients, such as colors or flavors, than brand-name drugs, but these do not affect how the drug works.
Generic drugs are made with the same active ingredients as the brand-name drugs that they are based on. Active ingredients are the parts of the drug that produce the desired effect in the body. For example, ibuprofen is the active ingredient in both Advil and Motrin, which are brand-name drugs for pain relief. Generic ibuprofen is also available as a cheaper alternative that works the same way as the brand-name drugs. Generic drugs must have the same strength, dosage form, and route of administration as the brand-name drugs. For example, if the brand-name drug is a tablet that is taken orally, the generic drug must also be a tablet that is taken orally. Generic drugs must also have the same quality and purity as the brand-name drugs. The FDA requires generic drug manufacturers to prove that their products are bioequivalent to the brand-name drugs. Bioequivalence means that the generic drug delivers the same amount of active ingredient into the bloodstream in the same amount of time as the brand-name drug. The FDA also inspects the facilities where generic drugs are made and monitor their safety and effectiveness after they are on the market.

Cholestyramine Resin, generic QUESTRAN is a prescription medicine used to treat hepatitis itching which is known as Cholestatic pruritis. Cholestyramine resin is recommended by European, American, as well as Asia Pacific Association for the study of the liver. Cholestyramine resin also works for diarrhea, bile acid which is common in patients after cholecystectomy.
Cholestyramine is a medication that belongs to a class of drugs called bile acid sequestrants. It works by binding to bile acids in the digestive tract and preventing them from being reabsorbed into the bloodstream. Bile acids are made from cholesterol in the liver and help digest fats. By removing bile acids from the body, cholestyramine lowers the amount of cholesterol in the blood, especially the low-density lipoprotein (LDL) or “bad” cholesterol. Cholestyramine is sold under various brand names, such as Questran, Cholybar, Olestyr, and others. The brand name Questran is no longer available in the U.S.
CISPLATIN, GENERIC PLATINOL-AQ is a prescription medicine used to treat advanced testicular cancer, advanced ovarian cancer. CISPLATIN also works for advanced bladder cancer.(cisplatin injection) infusion concentrate is a sterile clear and colorless liquid that comes in amber vials. Each vial of 50 mL or 100 mL contains: 1 mg/mL of cisplatin, 9 mg/mL of sodium chloride, hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide to make the pH close to 4.0, and water for injection to fill up the vial.
Cisplatin is a heavy metal complex that has a platinum atom in the center with two chlorine atoms and two ammonia molecules attached to it in the cis position. It dissolves in water or saline at 1 mg/mL and in dimethylformamide at 24 mg/ml. It melts at 207° C.
Clascoterone, generic WINLEVI is a prescription medicine used to treat Acne. Clascoterone cream is an androgen receptor inhibitor indicated for the topical treatment of acne vulgaris in patients.
The safety and effectiveness of Clascoterone cream in children younger than 12 years old have not been established.
CLOFARABINE, generic CLOLAR is a prescription medicine used to treat a certain type of cancer (acute lymphoblastic leukemia-ALL). CLOFARABINE works by slowing or stopping the growth of cancer cells.
CLOFARABINE is a medicine that blocks the metabolism of cancer cells and stops them from growing and spreading. Crizotinib, generic Xalkori is a prescription medicine used to treat ALK+ (Anaplastic Lymphoma Kinase) OR ROS1+ Advanced Non Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) which is extended to other parts of the body.
(crizotinib) is a medicine that you can only get with a doctor’s prescription. It is used to treat people with a type of lung cancer called non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) that has spread to other parts of the body and is caused by a problem in either a gene called ALK (anaplastic lymphoma kinase) or a gene called ROS1. The safety and effectiveness of crizotinib in children have not been established.
Cyclophosphamide, generic Cytoxan is a prescription medicine used to treat various types of cancer like Hodgkin’s lymphoma and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL, a group of cancers of the immune system that first appear as skin rashes); multiple myeloma and certain types of leukemia including chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML), acute myeloid leukemia (AML), and acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Cyclosporine is also used to treat severe cases of rheumatoid arthritis and plaque psoriasis. Cyclosporine is usually taken along with other medications to allow patient’s new organ to function normally.
Cyclosporine is a medicine that you can only get with a doctor’s prescription. It is used to help prevent organ rejection after Transplant, and to treat the signs of Rheumatoid Arthritis and Psoriasis. Cyclosporine can be used by itself or with other medicines.
DEXAMETHASONE SODIUM PHOSPHATE, generic Maxidex is a prescription medicine used to treat certain eye conditions due to inflammation or injury. Dexamethasone is also treat swelling, redness, and itching of the outer ear due to inflammatory conditions. Dexamethasone works by relieving symptoms such as swelling, redness, and itching. Dexamethasone belongs to a class of drugs known as corticosteroids.
You should not wear contact lenses while using this medication unless your doctor says it is okay. If you do wear contact lenses, take them out before using the eye drops. The eye drops have a preservative that can get into your contact lenses. Wait at least 15 minutes after putting in the eye drops before putting your contact lenses back in.
If you are using a liquid form of this medication that needs to be mixed, shake the bottle well before using. Do not let the dropper touch your eye or anything else to prevent

Octreotide, generic sandostatin is a prescription medicine used to treat controlling severe watery diarrhea or flushing in patients with certain types of tumors such as carcinoid, pancreatic islet cell tumors, gastrinoma, or vasoactive intestinal peptide secreting tumors. Octreotide is also used to treat a certain condition (acromegaly), when the body produces too much growth hormone and the hands, feet, face or head grow too large.
Patients with acromegaly can be treated with Sandostatin® if they are well controlled on s.c. treatment with Sandostatin® and if other options such as surgery, radiotherapy or dopamine agonist treatment are not suitable or effective, or while waiting for radiotherapy to work fully (see DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION). Patients with symptoms related to functional gastro-entero-pancreatic endocrine tumors can be treated with Sandostatin® if their symptoms are well controlled on s.c. treatment with Sandostatin. These tumors include:
• Carcinoid tumors that cause the carcinoid syndrome.
• VIPomas.
• Glucagonomas.
• Gastrinomas/Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
• Insulinomas, for controlling low blood sugar before surgery and for maintenance therapy.
• GRFomas. Patients with advanced Neuroendocrine Tumors of the midgut or unknown primary tumor location can be treated with Sandostatin® if they do not have non-midgut tumors.
Olaparib, generic Lynparza is a prescription medicine used to treat ovarian cancer, HER2- negative breast cancer. Olaparib is used to help maintain patients body’s response to prior chemotherapy for ovarian cancer, fallopian tube cancer, or peritoneal cancer when the cancer has come back.
LYNPARZA is a medicine that doctors prescribe to treat adults who have:
aggressive ovarian cancer, fallopian tube cancer, or primary peritoneal cancer caused by an inherited (germline) or acquired (somatic) BRCA gene mutation. LYNPARZA is used by itself as maintenance treatment after your first platinum-based chemotherapy treatment has worked.

ONABOTULINUMTOXINA Cosmetic is a medicine that doctors prescribe and inject into muscles and use to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate to severe forehead lines, crow’s feet lines, and frown lines between the eyebrows in adults.
Doctors do not know if ONABOTULINUMTOXINA and ONABOTULINUMTOXINA Cosmetic are safe and effective to prevent headaches in patients with migraine who have headache on 14 or fewer days each month (episodic migraine).
ONABOTULINUMTOXINA has not been shown to benefit persons with particular upper-limb duties or to enhance mobility in joints that are locked in one position due to tight muscles.
Doctors do not know if ONABOTULINUMTOXINA Cosmetic is safe and effective for use more than once every 3 months.
Oxaliplatin, generic ELOXATIN is a prescription medicine used to treat advanced cancer of the colon and rectum. Oxaliplatin is a chemotherapy drug that contains platinum. Oxaliplatin is used to slow or stop cancer cell growth.

PEGFILGRASTIM is a prescription medicine used to treat help your body make more white blood cells. White blood cells are important to help you fight off infections. Pegfilgrastim is given to people whose ability to make white blood cells is reduced due to chemotherapy. Some brands may also be used to increase white blood cells after exposure to large amounts of radiation.
Pegfilgrastim is a drug that has been approved by the FDA to lower the chance of patients getting febrile neutropenia, a condition where they have a fever and low white blood cell count, when they are getting chemotherapy that can harm their bone marrow. The drug should only be used for primary prevention when the chance of getting febrile neutropenia is 20% or more, and when there is no other chemotherapy that is as effective and safer for the patient. Pegfilgrastim is a modified version of filgrastim, which is a man-made copy of G-CSF, a natural substance that makes the bone marrow produce more white blood cells called neutrophils. These cells help fight infections. Pegfilgrastim has been changed by adding a substance called polyethylene glycol (PEG), which makes it last longer in the body and reduces the need for frequent injections.

short-term and non-continuous chronic treatment of mild to moderate eczema (atopic dermatitis) in adults and children 12 years of age and older who have normal immune systems and whose condition is not well controlled with other topical prescription medicines or when those medicines are not advisable
SACUBITRIL + VALSARTAN, generic ENTRESTO is a prescription medicine used together with other medicines to treat chronic heart failure in adults and cut down on the number of hospital visits for heart problems. SACUBITRIL + VALSARTAN is also used to treat symptomatic heart failure in children 1 year of age and older.
SECNIDAZOLE, generic SOLOSEC is a prescription medicine used to treat a certain type of vaginal infection (bacterial vaginosis) in women. to treat adults with some types of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma that has returned (relapsed) or that did not get better with previous treatment (refractory) and who have had at least 2 previous systemic treatments.
No one knows if Selinexor is safe and works well in children under 18 years old.
Selpercatinib, generic Retevmo is a prescription medicine used to treat certain types of cancer such as non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), advanced thyroid cancer, advanced medullary thyroid cancer (MTC) in patients whose tumors have RET fusion-positive genes. Selpercatinib works by slowing or stopping the growth of cancer cells.
SELPERCATINIB® (reh-TEHV-moh) is used to treat some cancers that are caused by changes in RET genes in:
adults with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) that has spread to nearby areas or other parts of the body.
adults and children 12 years old and older with medullary thyroid cancer (MTC) that has spread to nearby areas or other parts of the body, who need a medicine that they take by mouth or injection (systemic therapy).
adults and children 12 years old and older with thyroid cancer that has spread to nearby areas or other parts of the body, who need a medicine that they take by mouth or injection (systemic therapy), and who have had radioactive iodine and it did not work or stopped working.
adults with solid tumors (cancers) that have spread to nearby areas or other parts of the body, and have gotten worse (progressed) after other treatment or there are no good treatment options.
Your doctor will do a test to check if SELPERCATINIB is suitable for you.
It is not known if SELPERCATINIB is safe and works well when used:
in children under 12 years old for the treatment of MTC who need systemic therapy, and thyroid cancer who need systemic therapy and who have had radioactive iodine and it did not work or stopped working, or
in youngsters for the treatment of any other cancer.
This use is allowed based on the number of patients who responded to therapy and the length of time they responded. Studies are continuing to provide more information about clinical benefit of Selpercatinib for this use.
Semaglutide, generic OZEMPIC is a prescription medicine used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus with improving glycemic control in patients and to reduce the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and established cardiovascular disease.
Semaglutide injection 0.5 mg, 1 mg, or 2 mg is a medicine that you inject and that doctors prescribe:
to help lower blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes when they also eat healthy and exercise.
to lower the chance of serious heart problems such as heart attack, stroke, or death in adults with type 2 diabetes who also have heart disease.
No one knows if Semaglutide can be used in people who have had inflammation of the pancreas.
Semaglutide is not recommended for persons who have type 1 diabetes.

Sofosbuvir, generic Sovaldi is a prescription medicine used to treat Chronic Hepatitis C virus (HCV), scarring (cirrhosis), or liver cancer.

Sotorasib, generic Lumakras is a prescription medicine used to treat metastatic non-small cell lung cancer that has spread to other parts of the body or cannot be removed by surgery who have received at least one other treatment. Sotorasib is in a class of medication called KRAS inhibitors.
SOTORASIB is a medicine that doctors prescribe to treat adults who have non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC):
that has spread to other parts of the body or cannot be taken out by surgery, and
whose tumor has a change in the KRAS G12C gene that is not normal, and
who have tried at least one other treatment for their cancer before.

THALIDOMIDE, generic THALOMID is a prescription medicine used to treat certain skin conditions related to Hansen’s disease, once known as leprosy (erythema nodosum leprosum). Thalidomide is also used to treat a certain type of cancer (multiple myeloma). THALIDOMIDE works in Hansen’s disease by reducing swelling and redness (inflammation). THALIDOMIDE also reduces the formation of blood vessels that feed tumors.
THIOGUANINE, Generic TABLOID is a prescription medicine used to treat a certain type of cancer (acute myeloid leukemia-AML). THIOGUANINE is a chemotherapy drug that works by slowing or stopping the growth of cancer cells.

Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate, Generic Viread is a prescription medicine used to treat infections caused by human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection and chronic (long-term) hepatitis B virus (HBV). This reduces the amount of HIV and HBV in the blood.
TENOFOVIR DISOPROXIL FUMARATE is a type of medicine that is prescribed to:
- treat infection with HIV-1, the virus that causes AIDS, when used with other anti-HIV-1 medicines in adults and children who are 2 years of age or older and who weigh at least 22 pounds (10 kg).
- treat infection with HBV, a virus that affects the liver, in adults and children who are 2 years of age or older and who weigh at least 22 pounds (10 kg). The safety and effectiveness of TENOFOVIR DISOPROXIL FUMARATE in children younger than 2 years of age is not known.

Trabectedin, generic YONDELIS is a prescription medicine used to treat patients with unresectable or metastatic liposarcoma or leiomyosarcoma who received a prior anthracycline-containing regimen.
Tofacitinib, generic Xeljanz is a prescription medicine used to treat active psoriatic arthritis, moderate-to-severe active rheumatoid arthritis, and ulcerative colitis. Tofacitinib prevents inflammation and tissue destruction that is associated with rheumatoid arthritis.
Adults who have tried TNF blockers are treated with tofacitinib.
Moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis that did not respond well or caused problems with one or more medicines called tumor necrosis factor (TNF) blockers. It can be used alone or with methotrexate or other nonbiologic drugs that treat rheumatoid arthritis (DMARDs). Active psoriatic arthritis did not respond well or caused problems with one or more tumor necrosis factor (TNF) blocker medicines. It is recommended to use it with nonbiologic DMARDs. Upadacitinib, generic Rinvoq is a prescription medicine used to treat moderate to severe active rheumatoid arthritis and active psoriatic arthritis in patients who have taken other medicines like methotrexate that did not work well.
Adults with moderate to severe RA who have tried 1 or more medicines called TNF blockers and they did not work well or caused problems.

The safety and effectiveness of Upadacitinib in children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ulcerative colitis, ankylosing spondylitis, or non-radiographic axial spondyloarthritis are not known.
Adults and children 12 years of age and older with moderate to severe eczema (AD) that did not improve with previous treatment and their eczema is not well controlled with other pills or injections, including biologic medicines, or they are not able to use other pills or injections.

Valaciclovir, generic Valtrex is a prescription medicine used to treat infections caused by certain types of viruses such as cold sores (Herpes Labialis) around the mouth and shingles caused by herpes zoster, outbreaks of genital herpes, HIV-1−infected patients in adults. Valaciclovir is also used to treat cold sores in children who are at least 12 years old or chickenpox in children who are at least 2 years old.
valacyclovir tablets (as valacyclovir hydrochloride), can be used:
∙ To help adults with shingles (herpes zoster) get better.
∙ To treat or prevent genital herpes in adults who have a normal immune system and to prevent recurrent genital herpes in adults who have HIV.
∙ To lower the chance of spreading genital herpes with suppressive therapy in adults. Practice safer sex when using suppressive therapy.
∙ To treat cold sores (herpes labialis) in adults and adolescents ≥ 12 years old.
Valganciclovir, generic Valcyte is a prescription medicine used to treat disease caused by a virus called cytomegalovirus (CMV) in people who have received organ transplants. CMV disease can lead to serious infections in the body, including an infection in the eye, called CMV retinitis, that can cause blindness. Valganciclovir works by slowing the growth of the CMV virus. Valganciclovir helps prevent the spread of infection to other areas of the body.
VALGANCICLOVIR is a medicine that fights against viruses and requires a prescription.
For adults, VALGANCICLOVIR tablets can:
treat an eye infection caused by cytomegalovirus (CMV) in people who have AIDS. This infection is called CMV retinitis and can lead to blindness if not treated.
prevent CMV infection in people who have a high risk of getting it after a kidney, heart, or kidney-pancreas transplant.
VALGANCICLOVIR does not get rid of CMV retinitis. You may still have retinitis or it may get worse during or after taking VALGANCICLOVIR. You should see a healthcare provider regularly and have your eyes checked at least every 4 to 6 weeks while taking VALGANCICLOVIR.
For children, VALGANCICLOVIR tablets or liquid can:
prevent CMV infection in children 4 months to 16 years old who have a high risk of getting it after a kidney transplant.
prevent CMV infection in children 1 month to 16 years old who have a high risk of getting it after a heart transplant.
It is not known if VALCTYE works well and is safe for children who need to prevent CMV infection after a liver transplant, who are younger than 4 months and had a kidney transplant, who are younger than 1 month and had a heart transplant, who has AIDS and CMV retinitis, and who was born with CMV infection.

Zanubrutinib is a medicine that you can only get with a prescription. It is used to treat adults with:

Waldenström’s macroglobulinemia (WM).
Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) who have had at least one other treatment for their cancer.
